Deadly Instincts is fantastic!!! It is a gripping, fast-paced novel that is part crime story, part mystery, part love story and all around engrossing. Rarely has a book drawn me in so quickly. The graphic realism of the dialogue painted a brutish, but realistic view of life on the mean streets of NYC. I felt like I was right back in Bed-Stuy walking the streets, avoiding trouble, but it found me anyway. As soon as I finished with the book, I found myself longing for another written by Racquel. I completely understand that quality takes time, but I hope to read many more books by this author sooner rather than later.
I’m not usually a fiction reader but I read this book in two sittings. I took it everywhere I went so that I could steal moments to complete a chapter or a scene. It pained me to go to bed that first night but I had to be up early for work this next day. The following night I devoured it. The twists and turns from out of left field had anyone around me while reading it irreverently inquiring what it was that had me exclaiming in genuine shock, horror, and LMAOS. The rhythm held me and the imagery transported me. Absolutely gripping from start to finish and a definite must read!

ONE MOMENT I WAS LAUGHING THEN I WAS SHOCKED AT THE VERY END I CRIED 4 A WHILE THEN FLIPPED THE PAGE AND WAS ONCE AGAIN SURPRISED AND UPSET. YO00000000000000000000 OK THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ EVER. OK U HAVE TO UNDERSTAND EVER EVER. RACQUEL YOU ARE THE BEST THE BEST AUTHOR EVER HANDS DOWN THIS BOOK SURPASSES ALL BOOKS EVER.
From the time my book arrive and until the very end, I couldnt take my eyes off of it. I red it anywhere (school, bus stop, train, doctors office, lunch break, coffee break). Im telling you, this book will have you amused… And the way she describe and detailed gave me an imagination- like I was right there.
Well,I have read the book. Man oh man! I could not put it down. It kept me entertained, curious and eager to know what will happen next. You should read it yourself. I can’t give out all the secrets.

I was so engrossed in this book from start to finish that I could not put it down. I cannot wait to see it in the movies! It was full of twists and turns and keep me on the edge of my seat. I love the characters. They were well developed. The ending will leave you speechless! I love this author!

A good read that I have recommended to others. Though set in the United States of America, the author, in a timely way, keeps island home Jamaica in the minds of the reader, in a positive-place-of-tranquility- escape-destination manner, which could pique the interest of a never before visitor. Well researched and detailed in a way that makes the reader look back to ensure full understanding of the duplicitous roles of some characters. Darius should be brought out of ‘retirement’ to feature in several future novels. I think Deadly Instincts will make a good movie and I’m awaiting the next Racquel Brown Gaston best seller.
I’VE READ THIS BOOK TWICE ALREADY AND EVERYTIME I READ IT I WANT MORE. IT’S A REAL GOOD PAGE TURNER THAT KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR HEELS ALL THE WAY THROUGH. THE BOOK GIVES YOU THE ABILITY TO RELATE AND UNDERSTAND EACH CHARACTER AS IF YOU YOURSELF IS THE CHARACTER. THE BOOK TAKES YOU ON AN EMOTIONAL RIDE ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND ENDS WITH A SHOCKER THAT NOT EVEN I SAW COMING. THERE ARE NO DISAPPOINTMENTS HERE, THIS BOOK WAS WELL WORTH THE PURCHASE.

The book is a very fast read and the action keeps you wanting more. The ending was a surprise but realistic in today’s world. In all a very enjoyable read. This book was my Book Club read for the month and I am sure it will lend itself to a active discussion.
