About Racquel

Some lives are shaped by places. Others are transformed by people. Racquel D. Brown’s life has been blessed by both.

A daughter of the soil of Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica, Racquel’s earliest years were cradled by the mountains of Maroon Town, St. James, and nurtured by the tranquil seashores of Falmouth. Those landscapes planted within her a deep appreciation for beauty, resilience, faith, and imagination.

The vibrant streets of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York, became the setting for her metamorphosis, broadening her perspective and igniting a lifelong pursuit of learning and service.

Her educational journey carried her across continents. Boston University and her experiences in France refined her worldview, while the University of Miami and Brooklyn Law School equipped her with the knowledge and discipline that would become the foundation of her professional life.

What began almost unexpectedly with a position at Medgar Evers College evolved into a remarkable 27-year career in higher education, serving historically Black colleges and universities in roles spanning Academic Advisor, Director of Staff Relations in Human Resources, Assistant Professor, Assistant Dean, and Associate Professor.

Throughout that journey, another calling quietly flourished.

As an attorney and founder of Brown Ellis Associates PLLC, Racquel has devoted her legal career to serving individuals, families, and businesses with compassion, advocacy, and integrity.

Yet long before the law, before academia, and before entrepreneurship, there were stories.

Storytelling has lived within Racquel since childhood in Jamaica. For decades, her imagination has carried her into worlds filled with suspense, hope, heartbreak, redemption, and triumph. While education and the law became the visible expressions of her service to others, storytelling remained the quiet companion patiently waiting for its time.

Today, Racquel has chosen to unite her entrepreneurial spirit once again. Drawing upon a lifetime of experiences and the business foundation provided through her MBA, she established Elliness Publishing as the home for her novels and poetry—a place where stories born from one life may find their way into countless others.

Above all, Racquel treasures her relationship with the Lord God and humbly credits Him for every gift entrusted to her. It is her prayer that something she creates—whether through education, advocacy, or the written word—will enrich another person’s life, even if only in the gentlest of ways… perhaps through hope, perhaps through encouragement, or perhaps simply through a smile.
